AEMT 2025

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is a highly trained EMS professional who provides pre-hospital emergency care at a level beyond that of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) but below that of a paramedic. AEMTs have additional training in advanced airway management, IV therapy, medication administration, and more complex patient care techniques, allowing them to provide critical interventions in emergency situations.

AEMTs serve as an essential link in the emergency medical services (EMS) system, bridging the gap between basic life support (BLS) provided by EMTs and advanced life support (ALS) performed by paramedics. They often work in ambulances, fire departments, hospitals, and other emergency response settings, ensuring rapid and effective treatment for critically ill or injured patients.

Key Responsibilities of an AEMT:

  • Performing Advanced Airway Management (including supraglottic airways)
  • Administering IV Fluids and Medications in emergency situations
  • Managing Trauma and Medical Emergencies with enhanced skills
  • Providing Oxygen and Ventilation Support for compromised patients
  • Assessing and Treating Life-Threatening Conditions quickly and effectively
  • Transporting Patients and Communicating with Hospital Staff
