What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the people who work in ambulances across the nation to provide emergency care to the sick and injured. EMTs have learned basic and advanced medical skills to be able to help their patients during transport to nearby medical centers.

EMTs often work with other public safety professionals during rescues involving everything from car accidents, plane crashes, to medical emergencies such as heart attacks and strokes.

EMTs usually work in teams with another EMT or a Paramedic in ambulances and fire trucks across the country. Generally, one member of the team drives while the other works on the patient. In order to take care of their patients, EMTs are well versed in medical procedures, medical ethics, advanced life support and special rescue techniques.

How to Become an EMT

What do I have to do to become an EMT?

All EMT candidates must successfully complete an approved EMT program recognized by the State Office of EMS, and then successfully pass their National Registry Certification Exams. Attending the class alone does NOT certify you as an EMT. You must pass your national exams in order to become certified

What does an "approved program" mean?

All EMT programs in the state of Georgia must be recognized and approved by the State Office of EMS. Faithful Guardian Training Center works closely with our state training specialist in order to provide you with the most up-to-date information and prepare you for your national certification.
